SLAVES: A Political Satire
I was commissioned to illustrate the cover for a satire about re-enacting slavery as a possible economic solution; by competing with the prison-industrial complex, in order to solve income inequality.
I used yellow because it is usually an uplifting color that represents intellectualism and creative thinking. While it is an optimistic and confident color it is also associated with impatience, cowardice and a lack of compassion. In general, yellow is used to symbolism liberalism, but it wavers back and forth politically in history and the emotional spectrum, not unlike the plot of this book.

The cover displays a Southern portico with shackles hanging sporadically. This is inspired by the once-strong presence of slavery in the south.
